James Mahoney, Executive Director of The Nyack Library
and Win Perry, President of the Historical Society of the Nyacks
“We are extremely grateful to the Historical Society of the Nyacks for its support of our expansion and renovation project.” said James Mahoney, Executive Director of The Nyack Library. “The project will enable us to better serve the community by providing enhanced services and a more spacious environment for patrons to read, learn and participate in our programs.” One of the many highlights in the renovated building will be a new and improved Local History Room, providing exhibit areas for enlarged collections to be enjoyed by the public.
The Historical Society of the Nyacks was organized in 1994 at a public meeting in the Library of the Upper Nyack School. The Society is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to researching, preserving and fostering appreciation for the history of the Nyack community. The Society sponsors periodic meetings, programs, exhibits and trips to promote knowledge of, and interest in, local history.
The Historical Society of the Nyacks and The Nyack Library have collaborated on projects for many years including the publication of three books on local history, the collection of oral and video histories, and ten HSN exhibits held at The Nyack Library. HSN volunteers help staff the Local History Room. Library staff members have helped the HSN with its House Tours and have provided photographs for the HSN website and publications.
There are other opportunities to dedicate areas in the newly expanded and renovated Library.
